“Biscuits” is a film co produced between myself and three other people. After pitching the most depressing idea on this planet to them (an old man in a bar seeing images of moments he had with his implied deceased wife through the years in the same bar, until he dies himself), Nadine, co-animator and project manager, pitched “Biscuits” instead and we fell in love with it, and collectively decided on that instead. Complete tonal whiplash.

All we had was the idea of a Hemingway cat making literal biscuits with his little cat-thumb, and slowly the pieces of the story came together after Bailey, co-animator and music director, pitched Chubz the cat coming to the bakery via flier (the flier smacking him in the face was my contribution).

After we had a very generic script of general story beats written out, I kept adding to the word document until 2 a.m. and promptly pitched all my additions + ending scene the next day. I also sketched out some potential character designs and was immediately tasked with lead character designer and color designer.

After we completed the timed storyboard, I went in with a hacksaw and edited the timing of the whole thing, voluntarily. And after it was all complete, the flow between scenes was just a little too jittery. So, while working with Bailey to make sure the music still worked, I voluntarily re-timed the film yet again to make sure the pacing was up-to-par. It was an incredible experience and opportunity and I only had positive take-a-ways.
